Table Cape Tulip Farm

Table Cape Tulip Farm

Perched at 363 Table Cape Road on the summit of an extinct volcanic vent, the Table Cape Tulip Farm offers a remarkable experience for families exploring Tasmania. The dramatic 180-metre cliffs drop away into Bass Strait, providing a backdrop of rich farmland, ocean views, and the historic Table Cape Lighthouse. Operated by the Roberts-Thomson family, who settled on the Cape in 1910, the land has evolved over generations from vegetable and livestock farming into a specialised flower bulb nursery known as Van Diemen Quality Bulbs.

Today, the property is home to what are understood to be the largest tulip fields in the Southern Hemisphere that visitors can actually wander through. It provides a welcoming environment where parents, grandparents, and children can connect with nature, take family photographs, and explore agricultural history first-hand.

Tulip Farms in Tasmania

Northwest Tasmania

Northwest Tasmania allows you to witness the landscape fully explode with seasonal colour. The spring open days run every day from the last week of September until late October, between 9:00am and 5:00pm. Because optimal viewing typically occurs from early October through to the end of the second week, families planning a spring road trip should target this window to see the hectares of tulips in peak bloom.

As a working farm, the paths can be uneven, so the family recommends packing appropriate, sturdy footwear for children and adults. Tickets can be purchased online in advance or directly at the gate upon arrival. Entry fees are structured with families in mind:

Adults: $17 AUD
Seniors, Concessions, and Students: $15 AUD
Children (aged 6 to 17): $3 AUD
Children under 6: Free

Beyond the expansive fields, the farm features an impressive indoor display area. Visitors can escape the spring breeze to admire elaborate floral arrangements, explore the on-site art gallery, or purchase souvenirs, potted tulips, and fresh cut flowers. Settle in for a relaxed afternoon break with traditional Devonshire teas available on-site, where parents can read up on expert tips for growing bulbs at home.

Things to Do in Wynyard

If you travel outside the spring season, there are still plenty of things to do in Wynyard and up on the Cape. The farm opens a dedicated summer and autumn garden space called ‘The Patch’. Operating from mid-February until early April, this area is situated next to the picturesque farm dams and offers wide views of the lighthouse.

Families can wander through rows of vibrant summer flowers, pack a family picnic to enjoy on the grounds, or purchase ready-made refreshments. Opening hours for ‘The Patch’ are 10:00am to 4:00pm from Monday to Thursday, 10:00am to 9:00pm on Fridays, and 10:00am to 4:00pm on weekends. Admission is $13 AUD for adults, $11 AUD for seniors, $6 AUD for high school students, and $4 AUD for primary school students.

For over 32 years, the town of Wynyard has also hosted the annual Bloomin’ Tulip Festival. This major community celebration causes the local town to buzz with live music, artists, festivities, and local food stalls, making it a brilliant, high-energy day out for travellers looking for a locally informed holiday experience.
